My Testimonial
“At first, I didn't even think I would want to do a residency, but through my IPT courses and my LAPPE with the Temple BSW program, I realized that my desire to become an advocate for patients would lead me into a clinical position. A residency program isn't required, however, I believe it will prepare me as I become the best pharmacist and patient advocate I can be.”

PGY-1 Driscoll Children's Hospital

My Testimonial
“My journey to obtaining a pharmacy residency at Driscoll Children's Hospital has been both rewarding and deeply shaped by the opportunities and support I received throughout my education. From early on, I was intentional about building meaningful connections, which ultimately played a pivotal role in my success. Through my experiences as both an intern and a LAPPE student at Driscoll, I was able to immerse myself in the hospital environment, develop professional relationships, and demonstrate my commitment to patient care. These experiences allowed me to make strong, lasting impressions that contributed to earning my residency position. Equally important was the foundation I received from my college and its faculty. The professors not only provided me with the clinical knowledge necessary to succeed, but also challenged me to think critically, apply my learning in real-world scenarios, and grow into a confident, capable clinician. Their mentorship and dedication ensured that I felt prepared to step into a clinical setting and perform at a high level.”

My Testimonial
“My path toward pursuing a pharmacy residency definitely was not what I expected, since I originally thought I would go into retail pharmacy. However, I made it a point to stay open to new experiences throughout pharmacy school, which ended up completely shifting my perspective. Through my clinical rotations, I saw firsthand how impactful clinical pharmacy can be, and I was fortunate to have several great preceptors and mentors who offered guidance and support along the way. During my APPEs, I was able to make meaningful interventions, like catching drug duplications and identifying dosing errors, which showed me how directly pharmacists can improve patient care. Being part of the Texas A&M Irma Lerma Rangel College of Pharmacy played a huge role in this growth by providing hands-on experiences and preparing me for real-world practice. Looking back, I truly believe that keeping an open mind helped me find my path and led me to exactly where I was meant to be.”

PGY-1 Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital

My Testimonial
“I chose to pursue a residency when I decided I was interested in either ambulatory care or oncology. In order to solidify this decision, I first pursued a LAPPE at Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital as they offered an ambulatory oncology elective which fit my interests. My LAPPE program was an amazing experience, and I learned so much from my preceptors and was very fortunate to be in such a healthy learning environment. I wanted to continue my pharmacy path at Willowbrook and decided to work towards obtaining a residency there as my top choice. I owe a great deal to Texas A&M faculty and peers for getting me to this position, particularly Stephen Lee, PharmD; Delaney Ivy, PharmD; and Lynde Buras, RPh. They helped prepare me for interviews, precepted me both in clinic and on research projects, and oversaw organization events I put on to ensure my didactic years were a success. I'm extremely grateful for this opportunity to pursue higher training and to impact my community in any way I can.”

“I was entering school without a clear picture as to what path to take after graduation. After a few classes and meeting preceptors, things got even more complicated, pharmacy has many pathways and many of them piqued my interest. I found myself visiting Mrs. Mathews’ office quite frequently to ask questions and was able to straighten out my interests. I am thankful to her, and the professors that shared their advice.”

My Testimonial
“Deciding what field of pharmacy to pursue was one of the most challenging aspects of my journey, as I found fulfillment in every experience. From internships and clinical rotations to research, leadership, and philanthropy, I discovered a true passion for pharmacy, which made it difficult to choose a single path. Fortunately, Texas A&M provided diverse opportunities, strong mentorship, and comprehensive clinical training that allowed me to explore my interests and grow with confidence. With the support of my mentors and the foundation I built during pharmacy school, I successfully matched with the PGY-1 Ambulatory Care Focus Residency Program at CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Frances Health System, where I look forward to continuing my development as a patient-centered pharmacist. I am incredibly grateful for the mentors who have shaped my journey, with special thanks to Drs. Liz Prochaska, Larry Lovett, Rachel Lovett, Koren Dunn, Annette DeSantiago, and Mitchell Barnett for their guidance and support throughout my pharmacy education. I am excited for the next step in my journey and eager to see what the future holds!”

My Testimonial
“I did not initially consider pursuing a PGY1 residency until I began my APPE rotations. During this time, my preceptors had a profound impact on me—their clinical expertise, dedication to patient care, and passion for teaching inspired me to pursue residency. They consistently challenged me to think critically, apply my knowledge in real-time, and step outside of my comfort zone. The College of Pharmacy played a key role in supporting this journey. In addition to providing meaningful APPE experiences, the College offered valuable resources throughout the residency application process. Faculty and mentors took the time to review my CV, provide feedback on letters of intent, and conduct mock interviews. Their guidance and encouragement made a significant difference in helping me present myself effectively as a candidate. I am incredibly grateful for the support from both my preceptors and the College of Pharmacy. Their investment in my growth not only helped me successfully match into a PGY1 residency program but also shaped me into a more confident, capable, and driven future pharmacist.”

PGY-2 Emergency Medicine at Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital

My Testimonial
“During my P1 orientation, I remember hearing upperclassmen talk about their involvement in multiple organizations, leadership roles, internships, and research. At the time, it felt overwhelming. I was not sure how I could balance all of that while maintaining my GPA. However, my journey through pharmacy school became much more than just didactic learning. It was shaped by leadership opportunities, extracurricular involvement, and, most importantly, the relationships I built along the way. I made an effort to connect with pharmacists across different career paths and learn what they were passionate about. One of the most impactful experiences was participating in the LAPPE program during my P4 year, which exposed me to pharmacists who truly loved what they do. In particular, watching my emergency medicine APPE preceptor (who is also our alumni!) make impactful clinical decisions, directly influence patient outcomes, and still lead with empathy deeply resonated with me and solidified my passion for emergency medicine. With the support, mentorship, and clinical experiences provided throughout pharmacy school years, I developed the confidence and skills needed to pursue residency. Each experience built a strong foundation that ultimately led me to match to a PGY2 Emergency Medicine residency. My best advice is to make every moment count. Growth comes from every experience, both the challenges and the successes!”

PGY-1 South Texas Veterans Health Care System

My Testimonial
“During my 3 years of didactic courses, I was certain that I wanted to choose a path towards industry. I received amazing support in trying to achieve that goal, but during my APPE rotations, I began to enjoy the clinical setting more and more as time went on. After lots of thought and conversations with some of my professors, they convinced me it wasn’t too late to change my mind and encouraged me that I would be an amazing candidate for a residency. With only 2-3 months until applications were due, the help I received from the College of Pharmacy was crucial. I received so much support from the College, helping me rewrite my entire CV and giving me countless pointers for writing my letters of intent. It was only through the support from my professors and other staff at the College that I was able to successfully match with a residency program!”

PGY-1/PGY-2 Pharmacy Informatics The Johns Hopkins Hospital Pharmacy

My Testimonial
“My initial exposure to the field of pharmacy informatics came through guest lectures hosted by SSHP and our faculty. Hearing from pharmacy informaticists working at institutions like the Mayo Clinic and University Health in San Antonio sparked a passion for the field that guided my time in pharmacy school. Being selected for The Johns Hopkins PGY-1 & PGY-2 Combined Pharmacy Informatics residency program was truly a full circle moment since one of those speakers was an alumnus of that very program. To ensure I was prepared for the rigors of post-graduate training, I took on leadership roles to refine my ability to lead diverse teams and focused on bridging the gap between clinical knowledge and technical expertise. Through the TSBP mentorship program, I learned to approach each rotation with a strategic informatics mindset. I also credit the ASPIR2E program with teaching me the invaluable dynamic of mentorship, both as a mentor and mentee. Participating in the Baylor Scott & White LAPPE program provided me with the competitive edge and professional coaching necessary to navigate the residency application process. I am incredibly grateful to the College for providing the resources, connections, and platform to help prepare me for a successful residency match.”
